OFFICE OF SURVEYOR GENERAL
(Art. of Instructions, No. 38.)
ESTIMATE OF THE EXPENSE NECESSARY TO BE INCURRED FOR Repairs to Buildings
PLAN OR DESCRIPTION,
This sum is estimated for general repairs to all colonial Government Buildings, among which may be mentioned somewhat extensive alterations in the Supreme Court, consisting of improvements in the ventilation of the Central Hall and putting in ...al internal refittings and the putting up of waterclosets. Also extensive repairs to Government Houses, repairing floors & repainting the Drawing Room of the Building. The Government offices also require a thorough repainting and it is possible the lead gutters will need to be taken up, for in some places white ant damage has shown underneath which cannot be avoided without the removal of the bad. The use of lead gutters has been avoided for many years due to the extensive decay caused by the heat of the climate, which makes them objectionable as they become softened and breakages result. The causes of decay in this climate, including attacks of white ants, have been frequently reported and it is unnecessary here to repeat them. Where practicable in buildings lately erected, hardwood has been used.
